Human Development and Family Studies
Internship Description
During the Fall 2006 semester I was an intern at Fairview Hills. I provided assistance with the already available after-school program at Fairview Hills and worked to create and execute separate activities for the adolescence.
During the week I helped the children with their homework and encouraged them to participate in group activities. On Friday evenings I met with the adolescents in order to have discussions, work on projects as a team, share personal talents, and go on field trips to the Penn State Campus. On Saturday mornings the younger children played games and worked on crafts. On Saturday afternoons the adolescents met in order to create a mural we painted in the community building.
I have spent a lot of time with the kids. They are fun and full of energy. Each one has something different to offer and every day I learned something new about them and sometimes about myself. |
