Barbara Wiens-Tuers
Assistant Professor of Economics, Division of Business and Engineering
Barbara Weins-Tuers is an Assistant Professor of Economics, Division of Business at Penn State. She directs the College's Teaching Learning Consortium, a voluntary faculty interest group devoted to promoting and supportive improvements in college teaching. In March of 2003, she led this group in hosting a regional conference on teaching improvement, and co-edited a book of conference proceedings (Ford & Wiens-Tuers, 2004). The kind of active learning supported in this proposal is strongly endorsed in this volume, with numerous examples of how our faculty have pursued this goal. In 2004, she was the recipient of two prestigious faculty awards, The Grace Long Faculty Excellence Award, and the Commission for Women Colleague Award. Her scholarly interests have emphasized economic aspects of temporary and non-standard work, including training for these positions by employers and the relationship between temporary work and home ownership. Her work and teaching are directly relevant to the AHA residents.
