Courtney A. Garvey, Summer 2006
Criminal Justice
| During my internship with the Altoona Police Department, I was able to shadow one of their fellow officers who did community policing at Fairview Hills. While doing my internship I was able to see a whole different type of policing and to see it from a police point of view. I was able to meet a lot of new people during my fifteen weeks of interning and I really got to know most of the kids who lived at Fairview Hills. One of the things I liked about my internship was getting to know some of the residents from Fairview Hills. You would see many of them daily and a lot of the residents took time to say hello and they were all eager to know who I was and what I was doing with the officers. I got a lot from my internship. I never really knew what community policing was, nor did I know it existed so close to home. I am glad I was able to take what I took from some of my classes and apply it to different situations that occurred up at Fairview Hills. |
