Crime Prevention and Personal Safety

Courses Involved: CJ 210 CJ 433 CJ 453
Faculty Involved: Michael Arter, Ph.D. and Sharon Redhawk Love, Ph.D.

Students distributed surveys on the fear of crime, experience with crime, and selected psychological measures at the Senior Towers, Green Avenue Towers, EST, and Fairview Hills. Their goal was to establish a baseline of information through crime mapping and resident surveys. Students gained a great deal of insight into the lives of the residents as they completed their assignments, and they were able to converse with the residents on the topic of the resident's choice. Educational pamphlets on gangs, bullying, and conflict resolution were also developed to be distributed to the residents of Fairview Hills.
