Daniel Lago, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Human Development and Family Studies, Division of Education, Human Development and Family Studies
Dr. Dan Lago is the Director of this Community Academic partnership. He is an Assistant Professor of Human Development and Family Studies, Division of Education, Human Development and Family Studies at Penn State. Dr. Lago is a gerontologist with over 25 years of experience in applied outreach and program evaluation efforts associated with aging and community-based aging services. In 1996 he led a team of Penn State faculty in developing the "Well at Home" program (Lago et al, 1996) which provided resources for promoting exercise and nutrition interventions to help elderly persons remain independent in their homes. The two-year effort was funded by the PA Department of Health. The project was conducted within four counties and developed a community network of over 230 collaborating professionals and elders. Their initial suggestions and reactions to draft materials were central in the overall plan as well as details of the intervention packages produced. He has conducted an array of applied program evaluation research on aging services including evaluation of in-home personal care, transportation and mobility services, pharmaceutical assistance program for the elderly, and policy issues of waiting lists for aging services (Lago, 2001). His projects and publications frequently involve undergraduates in the evaluation and research process. He teaches both introductory and advanced research methods courses focused on community human services applications. His current scholarly interests are on the issues of family caregiving of the elderly and their interaction with formal aging care systems.
