    Free Application for Federal Student Aid
    Most important site! Where you go to apply for State and Federal grants, loans, and work study to pay for college.
  • http://www.finaid.org/
    Great site! FinAid was established in the Fall of 1994 as a public service. This awar-winning site has grown into the most comprehensive annotated collection of information about student financial aid on the web. Access to FinAid is free for all users and there is no charge to link to the site.

    "Federal Student Aid: Start Here Go Further"
    Great government site with information about Financial Aid. How to prepare, how to apply, and how to repay. It is directed at middle school students all the way to graduate students.

    "Looking for Student Aid: Federal, State, and other Sources of Information"
    Simple government site with common questions and easy to understand answers.
    Also, directs you where to go for more information.

Scholarship Information

  • http://www.fastweb.com/
    "Fastweb.com" is the most recommended site for searching for scholarships. Create a free profile and then they send you scholarships that match your interest and tell you how to apply to them.
  • http://www.ducktapeclub.com/contests/
    "Stuck at the Prom" sponsored by the Duck Brand duct tape company. The contest is open to residents of the United States and Canada. You must be 14 years or older and attend a high school prom in the spring. Participants must adorn themselves in stylishy "sticky" fashions made from duct tape. You must enter as a couple. There are three awards available, ranging from $500 to $2,500.

    SchoarshipHelp.org, "Your source for Free Scholarship Information." Wordy but informative site. Explanations for different types of scholarships, lists of web sites where to look for scholarships, and step-by-step guides how to apply for scholarships.

    GREAT Government site!!! See and compare profiles over 7,000 schools nation wide. See and compare school's statistics on admission rates, crime rates, how many students actually graduate from each school, costs, and degrees offered. Contact information for each school is also listed- web sites, staff, phone numbers, addresses, etc. Easy to maneuver.

    Government site where you can check educational institutions' accreditations.

    "PDE: PA Department of Education"
    State government site. Resource site with quantitative data on higher education in Pennsylvania. Has contact information as well as resources for students with disabilities.

    GREAT government site! This is a comprehensive site where you can find the right school, research careers through the Occupational Outlook Handbook, look for internships, childcare, and even get a passport. Easy to navigate.

    "Altoona Area High School: Secondary Counselor Support Site"
    This is a very useful site for parents and students. It has links to SAT dates, career and college fair dates, and link for career exploration. Easy to navigate.

    "AES: American Education Services"
    Create a free profile. Has a "My Planner" tool that acts as an online file folder to store information about the programs and schools you're interested in. Save and maintain the information you need to plan for your future school and career. This site has a useful resume builder.

    Create a free profile to keep track of college searches, build a resume, and explore your career interests.

    "The Princeton Review"
    This site, sponsored by the Princeton Review, provides a free search engine (registration and profile required). This site also offers a personal folder that includes a number of organizing tools as well as a registration service that matches you to schools.

    "Mapping Your Future"
    This site provides a free search engine for scholarships, grants, and loans. It has links to SAT and ACT dates, career match interests, and many more useful links. Easy to navigate.
