Roseanne Clair, Fall 2006
Human Development & Family Studies
Rose Clair worked in the Eleventh Street and Green Avenue Tower during Fall, 2006, under the supervision of Dr. Dan Lago. Her primary mission was to develop a series of intergenerational programs that provided positive social experience for both youth and residents of the towers. She also served as a computer lab aide for the Eleventh Street Computer lab, assisting senior residents in using computers.
Programs she developed included social programs for grandparents and their grandchildren, such as a harvest fest, game day, and Christmas party. She provided tours to the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum and Horseshoe curve in Altoona, and a seasonal tour of Christmas lights at Lakemont Park in Altoona. She also organized a series of spaghetti dinners where local Girl Scout troops hosted seniors and provided entertainment. She assisted one resident who developed a substantial cookbook, replete with illustrations, as her first project using a computer.
"My internship was a very positive experience. I have increased my knowledge of the elderly and of the importance of relationships among the generations, and many other skills that will serve me well in the professional world. In exchange, I hope I have been a positive contributor in the Community Outreach Partnership with the Altoona Housing Authority, and Penn State Altoona."
