Faculty Involved: Lauren Jacobson, Ph.D. and

Students worked along side Joe Campbell (Director of the After School Program at Fairview Hills), and focused on storytelling and promoting the development of self-esteem and confidence among at risk youth. Students and faculty worked with Ms. Jan Kinney, a nationally known storyteller who has wide experience with local schools. Faculty and students participated in a daylong workshop with Ms. Kinney that focused on both conceptual frameworks and skills in youth story telling. This training and support by Ms. Jan Kinney helped the Penn State students when working with the youth while helping them develop and tell a story. Individual stories were selected and then the youth refined and practiced there own stories. At the end of this program, a Dinner Theatre was held, where the youth provided the entertainment by sharing their stories in front of an audience of community members.
