focuses on the philosophy and history of sport, with
particular focus upon such issues as sport philosophy,
sport history, sport and religion, and sport and

degree in Nursing from Penn State with a focus
on adult health and nursing education as a clinical
nurse specialist. She has been employed at Altoona
Regional Health System for over twenty years
where she works as an oncology nurse and serves
as the cancer committee outreach coordinator. She
is certified as an oncology and medical-surgical
nurse and holds specialized training as a chemotherapy
biotherapy trainer.

Dr. Barbara Hong holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University in Cross-Categorical Studies with a special focus on Mild/Moderate Disabilities and Psycho-Educational Assessment. She has also earned three Master degrees in Policy & Administration, Instructional Practices, and Learning Disabilities from Columbia University. She holds certifications in Special Education, Principalship, and District Administration & Supervision. Dr. Hong has over 20 years of experience working with people with disabilities in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, India, Tonga, Samoa, Hawaii, New York, Texas and Pennsylvania. Her work has appeared in journals such as Teaching Exceptional Children, Texas Reading Report, Preventing School Failure, National Council of Professors in Educational Administration, Journal of College Student Retention, Journal of College Student Development, and International Journal of Learning. Her publications and training materials have been translated into Spanish for the indigenous teachers in Central America. Her latest work has been focused on college students with disabilities and the impact faculty have on helping these students develop skills of self-determination. Dr. Hong is very active in the community and has been invited to sit on several committees such as the Local Interagency Coordinating Council which coordinates early intervention services for children and families with special needs in three counties and the Smart Start Parenting & Literacy Committee which supports parents of young children in promoting literary awareness. She has also been invited to sit on the Centre County Cooperative Extension Family Living Program Development Committee to represent multicultural families community in advising the county Family Living Educator about programs that meet the needs of the community.

Yeonsun Ellie Ro, assistant professor of early childhood education
and human development and family studies, is completing
her doctorate in curriculum and instruction at
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her
research focuses on socio-cultural perspectives on
early childhood education, including the provision
of effective and meaningful instruction to encourage
young learners’ bilingual/biliteracy development,
which is embedded in daily practices in homes,
communities, and schools. She has published in Journal of Research in Childhood Education, Young Children, Young Exceptional Children, and Journal of Literacy Research. She has also been active in presenting her scholarly works in numerous national and international conferences including AERA.
