B.A. in Visual Art Studies (VAST)

Objectives and Outcomes

VAST students should leave the program knowing the following:

  • Understand the elements of design
  • Be self aware of their own interests, passions, idiosyncrasies in their art making
  • Evaluate aesthetic and technical competence in art
  • Discuss and critique work through peer evaluation techniques
  • Create artwork in a variety of materials and techniques
  • Properly display completed works with exhibition quality standards
  • Identify and inform upon historical, contemporary, and current artists and art movements
  • Address relevant issues in art in society and culture
  • Develop a entrance level creative field portfolio and supplemental documentation
  • Safely navigate artist studio materials and practice
  • Demonstrate competency of computer applications related to both the creation of art (Graphics/Video/Audio) and administrative tools (excel, Word, etc.) for portfolio and gallery packet creation.
  • Clearly explain concepts and process through both written and verbal communication
  • Understand that above all success in art is associated with rigor in the studio
