Wednesday, November 18, 2009 @ 10:02 am Subject: using all the free servicesSo since this is my last semester here, I've been trying to really make the most of it. And boy, let me tell you, there are a lot of free things that we get for being students. Granted, we have to pay for a crap ton of stuff, but when you look into it, there's a lot of cool stuff we get for free. I've been spending a lot of time at the career services office, working with their staff to get the most out of my job hunt. I've gone there a bunch of times and it's great because it's all free. I even took a cool personality test to see which type of job suits my personality. I would recommend every student goes and tries that, it was really neat to see the results. Today I just went and got an N1H1 vaccine at the Sheetz Health building. Totally free. Totally awesome. Well, except for the painful needle part, I guess. I also really like the free access to everything in Adler. i spent an hour playing around in a raquetteball court one day and I use the weight room frequently. It's so awesome to just go on in and do whatever you want and not have to worry about membership fees or anything. I know we pay activity fees and all that, so yadda yadda it's not free, but you pay that fee whether or not you use anything. So I figure I'll make the most of it. Carrie, Quite the interesting blog, and my apologies for not recognizing you yesterday as I sat at the CJO table. :) You do have a point about the free stuff on campus and I would like to add to your list: clubs and organizations, such as the Criminal Justice Organization and History Society of which I am an active member. The first 2 years I attended Penn State Altoona I never touched any groups or clubs, but this time around I'm very glad I did (for free too) because of the experiences I've had, people I've networked with, and activities I've been able to take part in. Definetly a wonderful part of Penn State Altoona, definetly. Have a safe and delicious Thanksgiving holiday too, take care till next blog. James |

Carrie-- I've never been in a place where there are more free things to do and see--speaker series, films, bus trips, performances, readings, exhibits, sports--but just because I'm in college, I've never had so little free time to take advantage of what's on offer. That's what you call ironic.
