Sophomore Academic Advising/Career Planning Road Map
Schedule an appointment with a career counselor at 949-5058 (126 Slep Student Center) for plain text activities and schedule an appointment with a DUS advisor at 949-5084(Smith Bldg.) for bolded items. The DUS web site can be accessed at www.altoona.psu.edu/advising.
FALL SEMESTER
Dates represent Fall 2008
SEPTEMBER
- Complete a change of major form for the desired college if you meet the requirements
- Add/Drop deadline: September 3 Late Drop period begins: September 4
- Develop academic and personal goals for the semester.
- Participate in volunteer work and college activities by accessing the Student Life web site at www.altoona.psu.edu/stulife.
- Attend ACME to gather academic information from the various majors offered through Penn State Altoona on October 22 in the Adler Athletic Complex from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
- Conduct informational interviews with Penn State alum by registering with LIONLINK at http://www.psualumcareer.com/career/
- Discuss academic progress with your academic advisor.
- A career counselor can administer various interest inventories such as PearsonsCampbell to continue to assist you in exploring your occupational interests.
- Complete Spring schedule and review it with your academic advisor.
- Deadline for Late Drop: November 14
- Discuss occupations with relatives and friends over break and conduct more informational interviews.
SPRING SEMESTER
Dates represent Spring 2009
JANUARY
- Add/Drop deadline: January 21 Late Drop period begins: January 22
- Participate in volunteer work and college activities by accessing the Student Life website at www.altoona.psu.edu/stulife.
- See advisor for possible schedule adjustments and major requirements.
- Complete Entrance to Major information on E-Lion.
- Explore summer relevant work experiences, update your resume with a career counselor, upload your resume onto Nittany Lion Recruiting and target companies in your geographical area.
- Plan Fall and/or Summer schedule with your advisor (PSU Altoona Majors).
- Late Drop deadline: April 10
- Plan Fall and/or Summer schedule with your advisor (University Park Majors)
- During the summer, start gaining relevant work experience with a company to verify career goals.
