SPECIAL HALF SEMESTER COURSES

These 3-credit courses (unless otherwise noted) are open to anyone and are general education courses that would apply to most degrees at Penn State Altoona. Keep these courses in mind in case you drop a course during the semester, or just want to pick up something extra.


BB H 146: Intro to Health and Human Sexuality
An examination of human sexuality as it relates to health.

BI SC 003: Environmental Science
Kinds of environments; past and present uses and abuses of natural resources; disposal of human wastes; prospects for the future. Students who have passed BIOL 220 or any other upper-level ecology course in biology may not schedule this course.

CAS 100A: Effective Speech
Principles of communication, implemented through presentation of speeches with some attention to group discussion and message evaluation.

CN ED 301 (2cr): Student Organization Management
Exploration and development of leadership and group process skills necessary for effectively managing student organizations in higher education settings.

ENGL 015: Rhetoric and Composition

GEOG 020: Human Geography: An Introduction
Spatial perspective on human societies in a modernizing world; regional examples; use of space and environmental resources; elements of geographic planning.

HD FS 249: Adult Development and Aging
Physiological, psychological, and social development and intervention from young adulthood through old age.

HIST 021: American Civilization to 1877
An historical survey of the American experience from its colonial beginnings through the Civil War and Reconstruction.

KINES 45 (1.5cr): Basic SCUBA
This class is designed to teach students the necessary skills for enjoyable and safe diving. Students who complete this course will not receive PADI Open Water Certification. Please contact the instructor for further information regarding certification. Additional $139 fee for course.

An overview of the music of India, China, Japan, Indonesia, Africa, and the Middle East.
