8:00 am Registration - Lobby of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts

8:30 am Introduction
The First-Year Testing, Counseling and Advising Program (FTCAP) objectives and activities will be discussed.

Presenting the University to First-Year Students
A multimedia presentation will outline the academic structure of the University and provide an overview of the academic experience at Penn State.

Interpretation of the Profile of Academic Abilities
Each student’s test results, high school performance and SAT scores have been developed into an individualized Profile of Academic Abilities. Students and families will receive a copy of the Profile along with a detailed interpretation to prepare the student for individual educational planning with a FTCAP advisor. This explanation will also prepare families for an Academic Information Session with Division of Undergraduate Studies advisors.

  Students: Educational Planning Interviews & ID Card Activation

Educational Planning Interview – A FTCAP advisor will discuss the student’s test results and help the student evaluate his/her educational plans, occupational and professional interests, curricular goals and other issues related to the academic experience at Penn State.

ID Card Activation – Penn State photo IDs will be activated in the computer center. Students will obtain a user ID number and password that will be used during the FTCAP day and for computer resources throughout their time at Penn State.
9:30 am   Families: Family Academic Information Session
Academic information will be discussed, similar to the Student Academic Information Session

11:30 pm Lunch*

 
12:30 am   Students: Academic Information Session
During this small group meeting, students will learn of the educational mission of the University, discuss the nature of the transition from high school to college, learn to us the University Undergraduate Bulletin and other publications in order to develop a schedule of classes, learn to use eLion the University’s electronic advising system and discuss the opportunities available in a diverse academic community.
12:30 am   Families: The PSU ID+: Money, Meals and More

Students: College Meetings – Academic Advising / Course Scheduling
Students will meet with representatives of the college in which the student plans to enroll to discuss academic plans and the educational programs and standards of that college. The nature structure, requirements, purpose and mission of the college or program of enrollment will be covered.

1:30 pm   Families: You, Your Student and Penn State: Forging a Partnership

4:00 pm Program Conclusion – Student and Families

* Lunch will be available at your own expense in Port-Sky Cafe on your scheduled FTCAP day.  Food can be purchased from an a la carte menu which includes various entrees, desserts and beverages.  There are several fast food and family-style restaurants within a mile of the campus.
