Housing for 7 weeks (**Please note that with the changing value of the dollar to the euro this may change. Visit http://www.x-rates.com/d/USD/EUR/graph120.html to see the current value of the dollar to the euro; click on Euro under the second part of the graph to see recent changes.) $1900

Estimated total for in-state $7779
Other costs:
  • Round trip air fare from the US to Rome [estimate $1000-1600, depending upon arrival and departure dates and city of departure]
  • Passport for US citizens; this will cost around $97 but will be good for 10 years.
    • If you do not have a passport, please make sure to apply as soon as you can, since passport service has been delayed because of a large volume of applications this past year.
Go to: http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html for information on how to apply for your passport.
  • Food and personal items, which cost about the same in Rome as they do in the US. We estimate between $900 and $1000.**
  • Estimate the following to cover all your required costs: $10,576

**Costs of lodging when the class travels outside of Rome is included in the program costs; some meals will also be provided, but you will be on your own for most meals during those trips. Please note that the cost of food is high in Rome and with the dropping value of the dollar, it will continue to increase.

You will have time to travel and explore on your own. Therefore it's good to have money for the following:

  • Museum fees and admission to tourist sites
  • Train or bus fares, and lodging at hotels or hostels if you wish to travel
  • Film
  • Gifts
  • Clothing

Tuition and fees depend on Penn State tuition and fee schedules.

International programs qualify for grants and aid. See your college financial aid office, and your college International Programs advisor.

The program is tentatively set for May 12 to June 27, 2008

Early application deadline December 14, 2007
Applications received between Dec. 15 and Jan. 25 will be accepted as long as space is available.
