Alcohol,
Tobacco, & Other Drugs
Nationally, the use of drugs and
alcohol by college students is an
important issue. The negative consequences
associated with alcohol and/or drug use
are affecting some of our Penn State
Altoona students. The Health & Wellness
Center maintains a strong commitment to
preventing such alcohol and/or
drug-related harm.
The Health &
Wellness Center provides education and
counseling services and programs regarding
drugs and alcohol:
- The AWARE program is a
psycho-educational intervention program
for students identified with a drug
and/or alcohol violation or concern.
- Confidential individual counseling
is available for students who have
questions or concerns about their own or
someone else's use.
- The Alcohol Harm Prevention
Program, available to instructors,
is a two session research-based program
that can be included as part of the
course curriculum.
- ADAPT (Alcohol/Drug Abuse
Prevention Team) is dedicated to
preventing drug and alcohol abuse among
our students. The team is composed of
faculty, staff, students and members of
the community divided into three
subcommittees. New members are always
welcome.
