Special Notes on this Tutorial
To use this tutorial you must have a working install of an operating system. It is also assumed that you have a working modem
installed correctly, and that you have a file sharing program. This tutorial uses LimeWire, but many file sharing
programs are similar, and thus the directions should work for most.
Removal
To remove LimeWire you will need to go to the My Computer icon on your desktop or if you are using Windows XP you
may have to go to the start menu to find the My Computer icon. Once this is opened you will need to double click on
control panel. Now, double-click on add/remove programs and a program will open with a list of programs to add/remove.
At this point you will need to navigate your way to LimeWire and select it. When this is done, select add/remove. Now
you will need to follow the on-screen instructions for removal. Click OK. Double-click on the my computer icon, and
then navigate to the icon for your hard drive. Select the Programs Files folder, and then find the LimeWire Folder in
this directory. Now, you will need to right click on the folder and select delete in the menu that appears. When prompted
click the yes option in the pop up window.
Removing Adware and Spyware
Limewire has several spyware and adware programs that it install with the program. The most malicious of which is
LimeShop, this is a program that monitors your on-line purchases and sends the sale commission belonging to another
site to LimeWire. Removing LimeWire does not uninstall LimeShop. To remove LimeShop you will need to double-click on
the My Computer icon on the desktop, then click on control panel. Note: If you are running Windows XP and the My
Computer icon does not appear on your desktop, choose My Computer from the Start menu. Select Add/Remove Programs.
Now you will be presented with a screen with a list of programs. Find and select LimeShop and click on the Add/Remove
button. Click the OK button when prompted. Now you will need to double-click the my computer icon on your desktop
again if you are using an XP machine you may have to use the start menu to access it again. Now, you will need to
open the Program Files Folder. Now, you will need to Right-Click on the LimeShop folder. You will be presented with
a menu, select Delete from it. When you are asked if you really want to remove the folder select yes. LimeWire has
been known to install other spyware and adware programs with itself such as BonziBuddy, and other monitoring programs.
To remove these you will need to run a spyware removal program such as adAware or spybot search and destroy to remove
them.
