Dear Penn Stater,
Many years ago, I had a talented and dynamic professor in
college who was a veteran of the Army Band. Ever the skilled
story teller, he would often end his stories with a moral.
One of his favorites was, “The only constant in life is change.”
How true. Now that the end of the academic year is
upon us, we all find ourselves at a juncture for change.
I’ve updated our website to provide students
with assistance using the new FAQ page. Here I provide
information about some of the most common educational paths.
If you are one of the students taking a path less travelled, I invite you to
contact me for additional assistance.
For students who will be graduated at the end
of the spring semester, kudos! I applaud you for your
determination. So many of you have stopped by my office this
year to share stories of success. Students headed on to
graduate school may use their remaining entitlement for graduate credits.
Students with remaining entitlement who need to take certification exams
to work in their chosen fields may use their remaining entitlement to pay for
their licensure or
certification exams.
For the continuing Penn State student, I
recommend that you schedule classes for summer and/or fall as soon as possible.
Pay special attention to the instructions regarding your campus
of enrollment, and whether or not it will change. With the
exception of Vocational Rehab & Education (VR&E) all Penn State Altoona
continuing students will need to complete the appropriate
form to request
your benefits. All students moving from Altoona to
University Park for summer or fall should complete the
University Park
Request for Benefits form.
For the brand new student for summer or fall
2008, the process will evolve for you over the summer months.
If you have not already done so, you can access
instructions
and benefits applications on-line. You will be invited
to campus for a day in June or July to schedule classes.
Please make time at the end of your day, after you have a copy of your schedule
in hand, to stop by my office, drop off your paperwork, or pick up copies of
blank forms. I look forward to meeting each of you and
welcoming you to Penn State Altoona.
Finally, I invite all students to stop by my office for
assistance with their veteran’s issues. The primary attribute
that makes Penn State Altoona so great is the people and their relationships
with each other. Certainly, you have all enriched my life
immensely. My goal is to help you enrich yours, as well.
Be well,
Jean Lasinski
