Acknowledging your Penn State Altoona co-workers for exemplary work on projects, programs, or day-to-day tasks

From Harriett Gaston

The African American Heritage Project of Blair County would like to thank the Facilities and Operation staff for their help in making the 16th festival a success again. The staff went beyond and above in helping our food vendors set up their cooking equipment and making the group Lady A & Destiny comfortable as they perform in the Laurel Pavilion. You guys are the best!

From Mary De Jong

Jean Lasinski spoke about knitting to the Women in the Arts and Humanities Women's Studies class on early December.  She explained how knitting has been passed down through several generations of women in her own family and showed many examples of original garments and scarves made by herself and her mother.  She even made a surprise gift for Dr. Mary De Jong, a Christmas tree ornament in the shape of a miniature handbag.  Some students have taken up Jean's offer of knitting lessons on campus.

From Brent Baird and Alan Seretti

On behalf of myself and Coach Alan Seretti we would like to thank all those that made our first Coaches vs. Cancer game a great success.  With a lot of hard work and determination we were able to present the American Cancer Society a donation of over $2,300 in memory of our late assistant coach Jim Ellis.  We would specially like to thank:

The student organizations Colleges vs. Cancer and the Society of Business Students, and their advisor Deb Hommer for staffing tables and setting up the luminary display.

The Student Athlete Advisory Council and all student-athletes that staffed tables and helped with set up and clean up through out the night.

The offices that assisted in the luminary sales; Jen Puhatch in Hawthorn, Gina Baird in Smith, Heather Miller in Slep and Debbie Wasko in Adler.

Sean Kelly and the Student Activity Fee for providing t-shirts.

The Gospel Choir for their wonderful arrangement of the National Anthem.

And lastly to all the coaches and staff members of the athletics office that jumped in and went above and beyond to make this event to happen so smoothly.

Thank you to everyone!

From Elise Vernarsky

I would like to commend Jim Brady, and Mike Lowery for their efficient handling of the traffic backup on Juniata Gap Road this morning October 16 2008. An over-sized tractor trailer was attempting to back up onto Baker Lane and was blocking traffic for about 15 minutes. Right as students were in the process of changing classes.

We in the nursing dept are very appreciative of the efficiency of handling this situation as many of our students were scheduled for a final exam that began at 9:15 a.m. Because of Jim and Mike, we were able to start the exam with a minimal delay.

Thank you so much!

From Chancellor Bechtel-Wherry

Kudos to the Registrar's Office!  Recognition was extended to Chancellor Bechtel-Wherry for the outstanding customer service of the Registrar's Office at the very start of the fall semester.  A letter in recognition was sent directly to the Chancellor and noted that the author witnesses a high level of courtesy and service extended to the customers.

From Sue Woodring

I'd like to salute Alison Bonsell and her team in Housing and Food Services for their very fine work at the dedication of the athletic fields for Denny and Dianne Stewart. The artwork and presentation of the foods was extraordinary and enjoyed by everyone. The decorations were as special as the day itself.

Also, the work of my team in the development office was outstanding in the planning and execution of the day's event. I appreciate their very good work and dedication to ensuring success!

From Patricia Jabbeh Wesley

I want to congratulate and thank Mandy Reinig who has been of exceptional support to me every step of the way as we planed, worked on, and got organized for the Creative Writing Study Abroad program to Ghana. She assisted by visiting my classes, listening to me, taking phone calls from me, and connecting to the Pan African Literary Forum (PALF) study abroad while connecting to University Park in all of this planning. She edited my templates and various proposals, and was there whenever I needed a question answered as we worked on the various proposals for the Ghana Summer Study Abroad. She even had the Web site up and working in the midst of all of the other things she had to do. Without your support, Mandy, I don't think I would have completed the proposals. Because of your patience and hard work, we now have a fully approved program, ready to recruit. Thanks for all you do. Keep up the good work.

I wish to express heartfelt appreciation to my friends throughout the campus community for their many acts of kindness during the last few weeks.  Your prayers, encouragement, and many forms of caring and support offered great comfort to me.  At a time when I needed to draw strength and resolve from outside sources, you were there for me.  Thank you for helping to guide me through a trying period in my life.  I will always be grateful for your time and generosity.

Warm regards,
Dana Chestney

From Scott Kelly

I would like to thank Mandy Reinig for coming to the ADM J 083S class and informing the students about Penn State Altoona's Study Abroad Program.  She has sparked the student’s interests while reducing their fear of applying to the program.  Her presentation gave the students a global perspective on education; awesome job!
