As a psychology major at Penn State Altoona, you'll take courses in clinical psychology,
social psychology, developmental psychology, and biological psychology. You'll
integrate your varied experiences in a capstone course in your final
year. The capstone experience may be a senior year thesis, an internship,
or a research project; in all cases, you'll work closely with a faculty member
and develop valuable writing and research skills.
Prepare yourself to work in
human service agencies, industrial settings, laboratories, or to continue your
training in graduate or professional studies, such as medical or law school.
Penn State Altoona offers
both a bachelor or arts and a bachelor of science degree in psychology.
The bachelor of arts
degree will prepare you for your future career with a basic psychology
background as well as the broader liberal arts requirements, along with skill in
a language. This degree is especially geared to students who may be unsure of
their future psychology career direction, since the program is more broadly
based.
The bachelor of science
degree includes options in science or business to suit a student's career goals.
The science option requires courses in biology, bio-behavioral health,
chemistry, and anthropology; this option will help prepare you for future
careers in developmental, clinical, or health psychology. The business option
offers a variety of business-related courses and will help prepare students for
careers in industrial and organizational psychology, personnel work, or
business.
Through internship
opportunities, you'll gain real-world experience. Our internship coordinator
will work with you to find the internship right for you. You'll gain valuable
skills, receive credits, and build your resume.
