3. How do I know if I have an Ethernet card in my computer?
There are two types of Ethernet Cards. One is a separate card similar to a modem, but with only one, slightly larger, jack. The
other is built into your motherboard, in which case there would be an Ethernet port on the back on
your computer close to the USB and Mouse/Keyboard connections. If you are uncertain, contact ResTECH.
4. Can I use a modem in the Residence Halls?
Yes. You can use a modem in the residence halls with any dial-up service other than Penn State, which is restricted to
off campus students only. You are responsible for all long distance charges.
10. What jack do I choose in my room?
For Oak, Maple and Spruce, jack A is located on the left side and Jack B is on the right side for Oak, Maple, and Spruce. In Cedar, you will need
to check the label on the jack on your side of the room. The top left jack is the one to register.
15. How do my roommate and I switch connections?
You must BOTH disconnect by going through the registration processes through ResCom and selecting "disconnect" instead of a
new connection. After you have both disconnected you will be able to register again with the correct jacks. If
you have any questions about this process, ResTECH can help if both of you come to the computer lab together.
21. Can I have my connection ready when I move in?
You can have your connection ready for move in. Click the link "Getting Connected" at the top of the screen and follow the registration process. If you wish to register, please do so within two weeks before your move-in date.
