Sue Barkman, MS, ATC, EMT became a certified athletic trainer in 1986.
She began serving as the full time athletic trainer at Penn State Altoona in
2002 after a 12 year stint with the Hollidaysburg Area School District.
She was instrumental in developing the athletic training program at
Hollidaysburg and covered the school's high school, junior varsity, and junior
high sports teams.
Her extensive experience in sports medicine and
emergency care extend far beyond high school and collegiate athletics. Sue
spent time with the United States Field Hockey Association, the United States
Olympic Committee in Lake Placid, the University of Tennessee women's basketball
program, the United States Women's Lacrosse Association, and the Penn State
University football, field hockey, lacrosse, and soccer programs at University
Park.
She also has been very active for several
decades as a volunteer for the Special Olympics, Pennsylvania (SOPA). Much
of that time was spent as the coordinator for athletic training and medical
services for the summer games held at University Park annually. Sue holds
undergraduate and graduate degrees in health and physical education.
