ATHLETIC NEWSWomen's basketball has seven-game win streak snapped at FrostburgWednesday, January 14, 2009FROSTBURG, Md. - The Penn State Altoona women's basketball team was held to under 34% shooting, and the Lions were outrebounded 53-33 in a 70-54 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference loss to Frostburg State Wednesday night. The loss was Altoona's first conference defeat of the season. Sophomore Courtney Carrol (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) paced the Lion effort with 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while freshman Marissa Lucas (Washington, PA/Trinity) contributed 12 points, six assists, and six rebounds in 35 minutes of action. The Bobcats were led by Brittany James, who not only scored a team-high 20 points, but also grabbed 16 rebounds and swiped six steals. Caryn Wright also recorded a double-double for Frostburg with 13 points and 10 boards. The closest Altoona ever came was at the 2:49 mark in the first half, when the Lions trailed 27-24. Altoona managed just two made three-pointers on 12 attempts, while the Bobcats hit 44% of their three-point tries. Frostburg also managed a 24-16 advantage in points in the paint. Both teams shot relatively well for the free-throw stripe, as Altoona went 10-14 and Frostburg connected on 12 of 16 attempts. The Lions' record drops to 7-4 overall, 5-1 in the AMCC with the loss.
