ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team was one of 66 squads in the country to receive a 2008 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Ethics Award for good sportsmanship, the NSCAA announced Wednesday. The Lions received a Silver Team Ethics Award for having no red cards and fewer than five yellow cards assessed during the 2008 season. Forty-two teams joined Penn State Altoona as silver award recipients, while 16 squads received bronze and seven teams earned gold. Bronze award recipients were those teams with no red cards and fewer than 10 yellow cards. To earn gold, a team must have completed the entire season without a red or yellow card. Fellow Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference women's teams Frostburg State Univerity and Hilbert College also received silver awards. All but two of the 66 gold, silver, and bronze award winners were women's teams.
