ATHLETIC NEWSRebounding, three-point shooting proves costly in women's basketball loss to GreensburgThursday, January 22, 2009GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's basketball team allowed Pitt-Greensburg to hold a 46-33 advantage in rebounding, and the Bobcats connected on 9-of-21 from the three-point line in the squad's 80-60 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference loss Thursday night. Pacing the Lions were freshman Marissa Lucas (Washington, PA/Trinity) and junior Alicia Glasser (Marion Center, PA/Marion Center) who posted 19 and 16 points, respectively. Freshman Tamara Thomas (Altoona, PA/Altoona) also contributed eight points and eight rebounds for the Lions. Altoona cut a 21-point lead to nine with just 5:05 remaining in the game, but an 18-7 Bobcat run over the final 4:46 would put the game out of the Lions' reach. Over the final 20 minutes of play, Altoona was only outscored 45-41 by the AMCC's first place team. Greensburg was led by a monstrous 20-point, 21-rebound performance from Kelsey Wilcox, who hit two three-pointers of her own in 32 minutes of action. Pitt-Greensburg converted 19 Lion turnovers into 28 points of their own, and the Bobcats held a 24-12 edge in bench points for the contest. Also, neither team converted any fast break points, and Altoona was out-muscled 28-10 in points in the paint. The Lion's record now stands at 9-5 overall and 7-2 in the conference. Greensburg was able to hang on to its top spot in the AMCC standings with the victory. Altoona is back in action this Saturday, January 24, when the team travels to Buffalo for a conference clash with Hilbert. Game time is set for 1:00 PM. MORE INFORMATION...
