Men win, women fall in swimming dual meet at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. - Sophomore Bryan Dau (Princeton, NJ/Notre Dame) and freshman Adam Capatch (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) won a pair of events for the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team, which cruised to a 124-63 victory over Hood College Saturday afternoon in a non-league dual meet.  The Lion women fell 92-88 to the Blazers from Hood.

Dau won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.34 and also took the 100 Yard Butterfly with a 59.45.  Capatch emerged victorious in the 200 Yard IM after clocking a 2:17.92 and followed that up with a 1:07.91 to win the 100 Yard Breaststroke.

Sophomore Dan Bodde (Shippensburg, PA/Shippensburg) also won an event for the Lion men, taking the 100 Yard Freestyle in 51.23.  Altoona captured both relays on the afternoon including the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and the 200 Yard Medley Relay.

On the women's side, sophomore Brittany Bauer (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) along with freshmen Brianne Yingling (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) and Kaitlyn Knott (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) were event winners on the afternoon.

Bauer swam a 2:37.29 to win the 200 Yard IM, while Yingling won the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a 1:19.60.  Knott narrowly won the 100 Yard Butterfly, edging Hood's Erica Hamor by nine-hundreths of a second with a time of 1:08.42.

Both the Lion men's and women's swimming teams return to action next Saturday, January 31, for a non-league dual meet at Juniata College.
