Basketball playoffs set: Women #2 seed, Men #5 seed

ALTOONA, Pa. - The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference basketball tournament fields are set, and both Penn State Altoona teams are among the six men's and six women's squads vying for a 2008-2009 AMCC Championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Lion women finished the regular season at 16-9 overall and 13-5 in the league.  Head coach Donna Kling's squad received a first-round bye and will compete in the semifinals this Friday, February 27, at 8:30 PM.  The game will be played at top seed Pitt-Greensburg, which competes in the other semifinal at 6:00 PM that night. 

Altoona will take on the winner of the first-round match-up between #3 seed Frostburg State and #6 seed La Roche.  That game is this Tuesday, February 24, at 6:00 PM in Frostburg, MD. 

Frostburg State is also where the Lion men, which finished the season 14-11 overall and 11-7 in the AMCC, will compete in a first-round game as the #5 seed.  Head coach Alan Seretti's troops will battle the Bobcats at 8:00 PM with the winner to meet top-seeded Medaille on Friday, February 27.
