ATHLETIC NEWSMen's tennis beats Bradford, improves to 2-0 in AMCCTuesday, March 24, 2009ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team continued its hot start to the 2009 season with a 7-2 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Pitt-Bradford Tuesday afternoon at the Adler Courts. The Lions managed to win all three doubles matches, including an 8-0 shutout from Scott Pickrell (Altoona, PA/Altoona) and Kyle Yerty (Roaring Spring, PA/Central), and an 8-1 performance from Patrick Bloom (Montoursville, PA/Montoursville) and Andrew Rosborough (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra). The Altoona combination of Stephen James (Muncy, PA.Hughesville) and Thomas Van Antwerp (Somerset, PA/Somerset) also managed to capture an 8-2 doubles victory. In the singles portion, Van Antwerp picked up a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Bryan Ocampo, and Pickrell won in straight sets over Bradford's Mike Teresi 6-2, 6-1. Yerty and Justin Hess (Saxton, PA/Tussey Mountain) also contributed to the Lions effort by winning both of their matches in straight sets. Altoona is currently 3-0 overall, 2-0 in the AMCC, and the squad will take the courts again on Saturday, March 29, when the Lions will travel to Erie for a 1:00 PM match with Penn State Behrend.
