ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona baseball team started their double-header with non-conference Penn State Harrisburg with an impressive 11-0 victory over the visiting Lions, but struggled in the second game as the hosts fell 4-2.

In game one, Altoona pitcher Matt McGrogan (West Chester, PA/West Chester Henderson) threw a perfect game through 4 2/3 innings before Nick Knull singled to deep shortstop.  McGrogan finished the game allowing just one hit and striking out four. 

Altoona scored runs in five of the six innings, cracking 10 hits and taking advantage of six Penn State Harrisburg errors. 

The Lions got one unearned run in the first, and scored three runs in the second, fifth, and sixth frames.  Seven of the nine Lion starters had hits, including Jimmy Baum (Shermansdale, PA/West Perry), who went 3 for 3 with three runs scored and one RBI.

Cord Heine (Malvern, PA/Mercersburg) added two hits to go along with two runs scored and one RBI. 

In game two, Harrisburg grabbed an early 1-0 lead before the Lions tied the game on a Grady Luzier (Forest, PA/West Branch) single in the fourth.  Baum roped an RBI single in the fifth to knot the game at 2-2 before Harrisburg scored two runs in the seventh to earn the win. 

Altoona used four pitchers, including Jesse Cox (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon), who took the loss after throwing 1 1/3 innings and allowing the final two runs.

Penn State Altoona was out-hit 9-6 in the contest.  RJ Barnard (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) led the Lions with two hits.

Harrisburg pitcher Dan Vignola got the win by hurling 1 2/3 of scoreless relief, and Austin Kulp was awarded the save by retiring the side in the seventh.

Penn State Altoona is 13-11 and will host Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Penn State Behrend on Saturday, April 4.  Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
