ATHLETIC NEWSSoftball drops two at Penn State BehrendSunday, April 5, 2009ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona softball team battled in two Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference games Sunday afternoon, but ultimately fell short to Penn State Behrend. Behrend took the first game 3-1 before claiming a 5-4 victory in game 2. In game one, Behrend scored a run in each of the final two innings to end a 1-1 tie leading into the sixth. Altoona starter Callie Lyle (Brockway, PA/Brockway) pitched all six Lion innings, allowing six hits and two walks. Lyle would also strike out two Behrend batters. The only Altoona run came when Alanna Luzier (Frenchville, PA/Clearfield) advanced home on a wild pitch. Luzier went 3 for 4 in the game with a stolen base. In game two, Penn State Altoona held a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but Behrend was able to catch fire and score five runs on six hits from the hosts. Behrend starter Julie Koman pitched four full innings and allowed just one Altoona hit. She would also strikout seven Lion batters and earn the win. Andrea Layton (Everett, PA/Everett) went 2 for 3 in the game, while Erin Cline (Murraysville, Franklin Regional) and Kelly McVay (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) each logged an RBI. Layton also pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up nine hits and five earned runs. Penn State Altoona is now 3-13 overall, 2-6 in conference, and is back in action this Tuesday, April 7, for a 3:00 PM meeting with AMCC rival Mount Aloysius at Stewart Field. MORE INFORMATION...
