ALTOONA, Pa. - Men's tennis player Kyle Yerty (Roaring Spring, PA/Central) and baseball player Cord Heine (Malvern, PA/Mercersburg) are the Penn State Altoona Athletes of the Week for the week of March 30-April 5. Yerty won all three of his singles matches and two of his three doubles matches during the week. On April 1 against Frostburg State, he won his singles bout in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, and his doubles match 8-5, and on Sunday, April 5, Yerty defeated his Behrend competition 6-2, 7-6 in straight sets. Yerty has helped the Altoona squad grab a 7-2 overall record and a 5-2 conference record. Heine led Altoona to an 11-0 April 2 victory over Penn State Harrisburg, and a 6-5 April 5 win over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Penn State Behrend. In the double-header against Behrend, Heine blasted three home runs between the two games, breaking the Penn State Altoona single-season home run record with 10. On the season, Heine is batting .348 with a team-leading 32 RBI while playing and starting in all 26 games for the Lions. Altoona is currently 14-12 overall and 5-5 in the AMCC.
