CRESSON, Pa. - The Mount Aloysius softball team used a six-run first inning in the opener before exploding for 11 runs in the third inning of game two as it cruised past Penn State Altoona in a pair of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference games Wednesday afternoon.  Mount won the first contest 9-0 and took the second 12-1; both lasted only five innings.

In the opener, Mountie pitcher Carrie Shevock earned the win after allowing only three hits and striking out three.  The hosts cracked eight hits and used two Altoona errors to score their runs.

Kara Myers (Millheim, PA/Penns Valley) had two of the three Lion hits in the game.  Mount scored six in the first inning and added one in the third before scoring two in the fourth to eventually force the eight-run rule.

Game two saw Penn State Altoona jump out to a 1-0 lead after half a frame when Alanna Luzier (Frenchville, PA/Clearfield) scored on an error and Erin Cline (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) got the RBI.

But Mount tied the score in the bottom of the second, then used eight hits and an error to generate 11 runs in the third inning, blowing the game wide open.

The hosts out-hit the Lions 15-2 in the second contest and got a two-hitter from pitcher Jess Walters.

Penn State Altoona fell to 6-24 overall and concluded AMCC play at 4-14.  The Lions host Westminster College on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
