ATHLETIC NEWSKline's Late Goal Pushes Lions Past Bobcats, 2-1Sunday, November 1, 2009
ALTOONA, Pa. - Nicholas Kline (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill) scored late in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and help #3 Penn State Altoona men's soccer defeat #6 Pitt-Greensburg at Mansion Park for Saturday's AMCC Tournament first round game. Kline had a hand in Penn State Altoona's first goal of the game, feeding a pass to Nathan Sonnenthal (Lafayette, CA/Acalanes) who scored to put the Lions up 1-0 just nine minutes into the first half. In the second half, Pitt-Greensburg turned up the pressure. It paid off for the Bobcats when Justin Grubb scored to tie the game at 1-1 at 50:47. But Kline and Sonnenthal paired up again, this time for the deciding score of the contest. Sonnenthal's pass found Kline in front of the Pitt-Greensburg net, and Kline's shot hit the twine to put the Lions up 2-1 with just over seven minutes left to play. Penn State Altoona will travel to play #2 Penn State Behrend on Wednesday for an AMCC Semifinal matchup. MORE INFORMATION...
