Third annual Intercollegiate Sports Invitational Golf Tournament set for
August 1

Penn State Altoona men's basketball coach Alan Seretti, women's
basketball coach Donna Kling, and golf coach Tom Koehle will host the third
annual Penn State Altoona Sports Invitational Golf Tournament on Friday,
August 1, at Iron Masters Country Club in Roaring Spring. The
tournament, which featured more than 60 golfers last year, benefits
the men's and women's basketball and men's and women's golf programs at Penn
State Altoona. The 12:45 PM Shotgun Start is $85 for an individual
round of golf and dinner or $400 for a corporate foursome, dinner, and tee
sign sponsorship. An individual tee sign sponsor is $100. To get

Despite improved play, golf misses cut at NCAA Tournament

The Penn State Altoona men's golf team tallied a team score of +42 (326)
on day two of the 2008 NCAA Division III Tournament at Chateau Elan Resort
in Braselton, Georgia, placing them 34th overall but below the cut line.
The Lions attacked the par-71 Chateau Course at 8:00 AM Wednesday and vastly
improved their scores from the previous day. Sophomore Jake Biltz
(Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) headlined the Lion scorecard, firing a
5-over 76 and making 12 pars to go along with one birdie. Freshman MJ
Worsham (Hershey, PA/Hershey) and classmate Steve Moritz (Stroudsburg,
PA/Notre Dame) carded an 82 and 83, respectively, a full 12 shots better
than both players' round one scores. Senior Quintin Dziabo (Cresson,
PA/Penn Cambria) was the fourth and final scorer for Altoona by shooting a
14-over 85, and sophomore Sean Jackson (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) finished
with an 88. St. John Fisher College standout Scott Harris Jr.
continues to lead the field and is the only player currently under par at
-3. His Cardinals are also leading the team standings after two days
with a combined score of 596 (+28). The top 23 teams advanced to the
final rounds on Thursday and Friday.

Golf opens NCAA Tournament play at Chateau Elan Resort

The Penn State Altoona men's golf team endured a difficult start to the 2008
NCAA Division III Tournament Tuesday at the Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton,
Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Head coach Tom Koehle's squad finished in 35th
place of the competing teams with a four-man, round one score of +77 (361).

(Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria), sophomores Jake Biltz (Hollidaysburg,
PA/Hollidaysburg) and Sean Jackson (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon), and freshmen
Steve Moritz (Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame) and MJ Worsham (Hershey, PA/Hershey)
took to the par-71 Woodlands Course of Chateau Elan at 9:30 AM, playing in
three-man pairings with competitors from Illinois Wesleyan and Oglethorpe
University. Biltz was the team's top scorer, carding a 17-over 88 for the
day while Dziabo and Jackson, who recorded an eagle on the par-4 fifth, shot 90
and 89, respectively.
Worsham shot a 23-over 94 to set the Lion team score at 360. Moritz
fired a 24-over 95 to round out the Altoona scorecard. The University of
La Verne is the clubhouse leader after day one, combining for a team score of
290 (6-over par). Individually, Scott Harris Jr. of St. John Fisher
College leads the 180-man field courtesy of a 3-under 68 on the Chateau Course,
which Penn State Altoona will tackle on Wednesday. Thirteen of the top 15
individual leaders played the Chateau Course Tuesday. To advance past
Wednesday's second round, the Lions will need to finish with one of the top 23
team scores.

Golf set for NCAA Tournament; Round 1 tee times announced

The Penn State Altoona men’s golf team
will begin its quest for a national championship at the NCAA Division III Men’s
Golf Tournament on Tuesday, May 13. The 2008 championships are being held in
Braselton, Georgia, at the Chateau Elan Resort, which features two challenging
tracks in the Chateau Course and Woodland Course. The event will be co-hosted
by Emory University and the Gwinnett Sports Commission. The Lions are one of
only 35 teams in the nation which qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Head
coach Tom Koehle’s five-man tournament squad consists of senior Quintin Dziabo
(Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria), sophomores Jake Biltz (Hollidaysburg,
PA/Hollidaysburg) and Sean Jackson (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon), and freshmen
Steve Moritz (Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame) and MJ Worsham (Hershey, PA/Hershey).
Of the 35 participating teams, 24, including Penn State Altoona, earned
an automatic qualifier bid by winning their respective conference tournaments.
Eight teams were selected from “Pool B”, which consists of independent
institutions, and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet
the requirements for automatic qualification. The
final three berths were reserved for Pool C, which are institutions from
automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any
remaining Pool B teams.
A total of 180 golfers, five per school, will
compete for individual and team championship honors. Five individual golfers
from schools who have not qualified to the NCAA Tournament will also compete.
The Lions will begin play on the Woodlands Course on
Tuesday morning. MJ Worsham will be the first Altoona player to tee it up
at 9:00 AM ET. Steve Moritz (9:09 AM), Sean Jackson (9:18 AM), Jake Biltz
(9:27 AM), and Quintin Dziabo (9:36 AM) will follow in the next sets of

Dziabo leads Lions at Grove City MBA Invitational

Senior Quintin Dziabo (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria) fired a 77 to lead the Penn
State Altoona golf team to a second place finish at the Grove City MBA
Invitational Monday afternoon at the Grove City Country Club. The Lions
finished the event with a team total of 319, six shots back of champion Grove
City. Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference member Medaille checked in
at third (333) while Division II Slippery Rock rounded out the four-team field
with a team score of 345. Freshman Steve Moritz (Stroudsburg, PA/Notre
Dame) carded a 79 for Altoona, and teammate Jake Biltz (Hollidaysburg,
PA/Hollidaysburg) shot an 81. Sean Jackson (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon)
recorded an 82 to complete the Lions' team score. Freshman MJ Worsham
(Hershey, PA/Hershey) shot an 85. The event is the last of the spring
season as Altoona will now prepare for the NCAA Division III Tournament
beginning May 13 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Solid rounds propel golf to runner-up finish at Behrend Invitational

Playing its second match of the spring season at the Penn State Behrend
Invitational, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team finished runner-up as all
five Lion players fired rounds of 80 or less Thursday at the Peak N' Peek Golf
Course. Sophomore Jake Biltz (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) tied for
second individually by carding a 74. Teammates Quintin Dziabo (Cresson,
PA/Penn Cambria), MJ Worsham (Hershey, PA/Hershey), and Sean Jackson
(Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) each shot 79 to give the Lions their team total of
311. Freshman Steve Moritz (Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame) rounded out the
Altoona scorecard by scoring an 80. Allegheny Mountain Collegiate
Conference foe Medaille won the team championship with a combined score of 305.
Behrend's Blue team (313), Lake Erie (318), and Behrend's White team (338)
rounded out the top five. The Lions are back in action on Monday at the
Grove City Invitational to be played at the Grove City Country Club. The
first group of the day will tee off at 12:00 PM.
Golf places sixth at first match of spring season

Sophomore Jake Biltz (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) fired a team-best 76
to lead the Penn State Altoona men's golf team to a sixth place finish at the
St. Vincent Invitational held Thursday at Latrobe Country Club. Five Lion
golfers participated in the event with the top four scores combining to make the
team total. Senior Quintin Dziabo (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria) carded an 80,
sophomore Sean Jackson (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) shot an 82, and freshman
Steve Moritz (Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame) shot an 83, all of whom joined Biltz
to give Altoona a team score of 321. Host St. Vincent was the champion in
the 18-team field by shooting a 309. Individual honors went to Clarion
standout Jared Schmader who shot an even-par 72. Penn State Altoona will
play its second of three spring matches next Thursday, April 24, at the Penn

Four named to men's golf all-conference team

Senior Quintin Dziabo, sophomores Jake Biltz and Sean Jackson, and
freshman MJ Worsham were recognized as Allegheny Mountain Collegiate
Conference all-conference performers, the AMCC office announced Tuesday
afternoon. Dziabo, Biltz, and Jackson, the Lions top three players
this season, were second team all-AMCC selections while Worsham garnered
honorable mention distinction. Last year's AMCC Player of the Year and
individual medalist, Dziabo carded rounds of 77 at the Penn State Altoona
Lion Invitational, 79 at the Pitt-Bradford Tournament, and 158 (78-80) at
the 2007 AMCC Championships. The Cresson native was a first team
selection each of the last two seasons. Biltz, a Hollidaysburg
graduate, also earned first team all-AMCC honors last year and lost in a
playoff for individual medalist honors at last weekend's conference
championships. He scored a season best 73 at the Allegheny
Invitational on September 25 and finished the two-day AMCC Championships at
Toms Run Golf Course in Blairsville with a 154 (78-76). Jackson, a
Susquehanna transfer and Huntingdon native, played every match in his first
year at Penn State Altoona. He fired the low rounds of the year by any
Lion golfer at the Pitt-Bradford Tournament (72) and Penn State Behrend
Invitational (71) and finished the AMCC Championships with a 160 (79-81).
Worsham had a solid inaugural season highlighted by a 79 at the Penn State
Altoona Lion Invitational and a 36 hole 157 (78-79) at the conference
championships. La Roche sophomore Jon Austin and Lake Erie junior Joe
Ribelli were the co-AMCC Players of the Year. Medaille freshman John
Haberman was the conference Newcomer of the Year while Lake Erie head coach
Milt Johnson garnered Coach of the Year honors. Penn State Altoona has

Men's Golf finishes runner up at ECAC South Region Championships

Sophomore Jake Biltz tied for fourth in the individual standings with a two
day score of 159 (82-77) to lead the Penn State Altoona men's golf team to a
second place finish at the 2007 Eastern College Athletic Conference South Region
Championships Friday and Saturday at Pittsburgh's Wildwood Country Club.
The Lions entered the 36 hole tournament, hosted by AMCC member La Roche
College, as the defending champion after hosting and winning last year's
tournament at their home course of Sinking Valley. As a team, the five
Lion golfers fired a total of 660 (331-329) and fell to champion Carnegie Mellon
by 23 strokes. Sean Jackson carded a 164 (85-79), Steve Moritz recorded a
166 (81-85), MJ Worsham finished with a 172 (83-89), and Quintin Dziabo
completed the tournament with a 182 (94-88). Five of Altoona's AMCC foes
rounded out the seven team field with the host Redhawks finishing third.
Penn State Behrend and Lake Erie tied for fourth, Frostburg State was sixth, and
Pitt-Bradford checked in at seventh. The Lions will return to Wildwood
Country Club on October 22 for their last match of the fall season at the La
Roche Invitational.
Men's Golf captures AMCC Championship, qualifies for NCAA Tournament

For the second time in as many years, the Penn State Altoona men's golf
team captured the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship and
earned a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Head coach Tom
Koehle's squad shot a two day total of 629, 19 shots better than runner-up
Medaille College. The 36 hole tournament was held at Tom's Run Golf
Course in Blairsville, PA. Sophomore Jake Biltz fired a 154 (78-76)
and just missed being crowned the AMCC Individual Champion after falling on
the second hole of a playoff to La Roche sophomore Jon Austin.
Freshman MJ Worsham finished fourth overall with a 157 (78-79), and senior
Quintin Dziabo tied for fifth after carding a 158 (78-80). Sophomore
Sean Jackson finished the tournament with a 160 (79-81), while freshman
Steve Moritz completed the Altoona scorecard after firing a 162 (80-82).
Lake Erie finished third overall with a team score of 654, La Roche was
fourth with a 656, and Pitt-Bradford rounded out the top five with a 667.
Penn State Altoona captured its third AMCC title in the program's eight year
history with the first coming in 2003. The NCAA Division III
Tournament will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, in mid-May 2008. Five
women competed for the AMCC Women's Individual Championship, which Penn
State Altoona's Ashley Piper won by firing an 81. The next closest finisher
was Bradford's Heidi Haljencin who carded a 111. Penn State Altoona
has two more tournaments remaining on the fall slate, including next Sunday
and Monday's ECAC Southern Regional Championship at La Roche, which the
squad won last year at its home course of Sinking Valley Country Club.
The Lions will also play a spring season beginning in April 2008 in
preparation for the NCAA Tournament. |

Golf team leads by seven after day one of
AMCC Championships

The Penn State Altoona golf team is in a familiar spot after 18 holes at the
2007 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships -- all alone in
first place and poised to capture its second AMCC title in as many years.
The 36 hole event, hosted by Pitt-Greensburg, is being held at Tom's Run Golf
Course in Blairsville, PA. Penn State Altoona fired a team score of 313 on
Friday, seven shots better than second place La Roche (320). Lake Erie
sits third overall with a 323 while Medaille (325) and Penn State Behrend (331)
rounded out the top five. The Lions received solid individual efforts from
Quintin Dziabo, Jake Biltz, and MJ Worsham, who each shot 78 and finished in a
six-way tie for third place. Sean Jackson recorded a 79 (T-9th), and Steve
Moritz rounded out the Altoona scorecard with an 80 (T-13th). Jon Austin
of La Roche was the low man on the afternoon, carding a 1-under 71. The
Lions are looking to capture their third AMCC Championship in program history
with the first coming in 2003. If head coach Tom Koehle's squad can hold
off the rest of the field on Saturday, it would earn the AMCC automatic
qualifier bid to the NCAA Tournament held in May of 2008 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Penn State Altoona will tee off late Saturday morning, and a full post-round
release with complete scores will be available Saturday evening.
Golf team takes third at Frostburg State

The Penn State Altoona golf team finished third with a team score of 338 at
the Frostburg State Invitational Monday afternoon at Rocky Gap Golf Club.
Lake Erie captured the tournament title as its top four players combined for a
326, eight shots better than second place Frostburg State. Altoona was
fronted by Sean Jackson and Steve Moritz, who each shot 84. Teammates Jake
Biltz and Matt Bullington fired a pair of 85's to set the Lions' team total.
Alternate MJ Worsham actually had the top round of the day for Penn State
Altoona with an 80, placing him third in the individual standings.
Pitt-Bradford finished fourth with a team score of 355. Altoona will look
to repeat as conference champions this weekend at Tom's Run Golf Course in
Blairsville, site of the 2007 AMCC Championships. The 36-hole event begins
on Friday.
Golf competes at Allegheny and Mount Aloysius Invitationals

The Penn State Altoona golf team took part in two invitational
tournaments on Tuesday afternoon. Half of head coach Tom Koehle's Blue
squad traveled to the Guy W. Kuhn Invitational, hosted by Allegheny College
at the Country Club of Meadville. The Altoona White team made the
short trek to Summit Country Club and the Mount Aloysius Invitational.
At Allegheny, Penn State Altoona recorded a team score of 322 (+34) and
finished ninth of the 14 participating teams. Jake Biltz tied for
eighth individually after firing a 1-over 73. The next best Altoona
round was courtesy of Steve Moritz, who finished with a 9-over 81.
Sean Jackson and MJ Worsham each shot 84, and Quintin Dziabo carded an 85.
Washington & Jefferson College was the overall team champion with a four-man
total of 293 (+5). Host Allegheny boasted the individual champion,
Christian Goetz, who fired a 3-under 69 and beat St. Vincent's Jeff Varga in
a playoff. At Mount Aloysius, the Lions finished runner up to
Pitt-Bradford in the eight team field. Matt Bullington and Jordan
Albright were the low men for Altoona with a pair of 81's. Brian
Carrigan shot an 82 while Anthony Giannetti and Nick McLaughlin rounded out
the Lion scorecard with 88 and 89, respectively. Penn State Altoona
returns to action on Monday, October 1, for the Frostburg State Invitational
held at Rocky Gap Golf Course. |

Golf hosts Lion Invitational, finishes second overall

The Penn State Altoona golf team hosted the eighth annual Lion Invitational
golf tournament Monday afternoon at Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona.
The event featured 10 men's teams and two women's teams from eight Allegheny
Mountain Collegiate Conference schools. The newcomer to the field was Penn
State Harrisburg, competing in its first ever Lion Invitational. The hosts
entered two teams, Altoona Blue and Altoona White, which finished second and
sixth, respectively. Altoona Blue was led by senior Quintin Dziabo's 77.
Sophomore Sean Jackson fired a 78 while classmate Jake Biltz shot 79.
Steve Moritz (83) and Matt Bullington (86) rounded out the team's scorecard,
giving Altoona Blue a total of 317. Altoona White was fronted by MJ
Worsham and his career best 79. Anthony Giannetti fired an 84 and was
followed up by Jordan Albright and Nick McLaughlin who each shot 90, placing
Altoona White sixth overall with a 343 team total. Brian Carrigan played
as an individual competitor for Penn State Altoona and ended his round with an
85. Lake Erie was the team champion after firing a 314, just three shots
better than Altoona Blue. Penn State Behrend, Pitt-Bradford, and Medaille
rounded out the top five. The individual champion, Andrew Nagy, also
hailed from Lake Erie and tallied an impressive 74. Two women's teams
featuring eight players from Lake Erie and Pitt-Bradford also competed in the
tournament. Brittany Binko was the women's individual winner with a 90,
scoring a 45 on both the front and back nine. The Penn State Altoona golf
team returns to action on Tuesday, September 25, for a split squad match.
Altoona Blue will travel to Allegheny College for the Allegheny Invitational
while Altoona White makes the short trip to Summit Country Club and the Mount

Golf team places fifth at Penn State Behrend Invitational

Sean Jackson (71) and Steve Moritz (74) helped the Penn State Altoona golf
squad to a team score of 309 and fifth place overall finish at the Penn State
Behrend Invitational Thursday afternoon at Peak N' Peek Golf Course.
Quintin Dziabo (80) and MJ Worsham (84), and Nick McLaughlin (86) rounded out
the scorecard for Altoona, who improved its tournament record to 22-8 overall.
Jackson's 71 earned him fifth place in the individual standings. Daeman
College was the overall team champion with a four-man total of 290 while Lake
Erie standout Joe Ribelli fired a 7-under 65 to claim the individual title.
Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schools Lake Erie and Penn State
Behrend finished second (291) and fourth (305), respectively. The Lion
golf team will host its annual Penn State Altoona Invitational on Monday,
September 24, at Sinking Valley Country Club. The first pairing of the day
is set to tee off at 12:30 PM.

September 15th, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team finished fifth
at the Pitt-Bradford Invitational. The event, which was held at the Pine Acres
Golf Club in Bradford, featured 14 teams. The Lions finished with a combine
score of 326, just seven shots behind champion and fellow Allegheny Mountain
Collegiate Conference member Lake Erie. Lion sophomore Sean Jackson
finished second in the individual standings with a round of 72. Quintin Dziabo
(79), Jake Blitz (85), MJ Worsham (87), and Matt Bullington (90) rounded out the
Altoona scorecard. The Lions are back in action on Thursday, September 20,
as they travel to the Penn State Behrend Invitational.
Men's Golf captures Lake Erie Invitational championship

The Penn State Altoona men's golf team was victorious in its first match of
the 2007 season, capturing the team championship at the Lake Erie Invitational
on Monday in Chesterland, OH. The five Lion golfers combined to shoot a
323 which was two shots better than runner up Penn State Behrend and five shots
better than Pitt-Bradford and Lake Erie. The low man on the afternoon for
Altoona was sophomore Matt Bullington, who finished tied for third place after
firing a 79. Senior Quintin Dziabo shot an 80, placing him tied for sixth
overall, while sophomore Jake Biltz finished ninth after shooting an 81.
Susquehanna University transfer Sean Jackson had an 83 and senior Chris
Bullington shot 89 to round out the Lion scorecard. The seven team event
was played at Fowler's Mill Golf Club, a 27-hole course designed by Pete Dye and
located 30 minutes east of Cleveland. Penn State Altoona is back in action
this Saturday, September 15, when it travels to Pitt-Bradford for the Bradford
Invitational.
Organizational Meeting scheduled for August 26

Penn State Altoona head men's and women's golf coach Tom Koehle has called
an organizational meeting for those students interested in trying out for the
mens' or women's golf teams. The meeting will take place on Sunday,
