Three players, coach honored with AMCC postseason basketball awards
3.4.08
Two Penn State Altoona men's basketball players and their head coach
along with one women's player were recognized by the Allegheny Mountain
Collegiate Conference Tuesday morning. Senior Quintin Dziabo (Cresson,
PA/Penn Cambria) and junior Colin Geiger (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) earned
Honorable Mention all-conference honors while third year Lion head coach
Alan Seretti was voted the AMCC Co-Coach of the Year, splitting the award
with Penn State Behrend bench boss Dave Niland. Senior Erin McGowan
(Duncansville, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) was the lone Penn State Altoona player
that got a women's all-AMCC nod by garnering second team honors.
Dziabo leaves Penn State Altoona as one of only three players in program
history to eclipse 1,000 career points. He has played 100 games since
his arrival in 2004 and has an all-time average of 10 points and six
rebounds a game. This is Dziabo's second straight all-conference
selection after also earning Honorable Mention distinction after last
season. Geiger came on strong late in the season and scored 266 points
through the Lions' 25 games (10.6 ppg) He reached double figures in 16
games this season and shot 40% from three point range. Geiger is also
the league's top free throw shooter, finishing the season at 88.1% from the
stripe. Seretti, who came to Altoona in 2005 via Washington &
Jefferson College, has resurrected the men's basketball program at Ivyside.
His teams have made back-to-back AMCC Tournament appearances and have
improved their win total every season (7 in 05-06, 10 in 06-07, 14 in
07-08). McGowan had a breakout senior season in which she scored 359
points and shot 41% from the floor. She set single game records for
points (30) and made 3-pointers (7) and leaves Ivyside as the third leading
scorer in program history with 827 points.

2007-2008 SEASON PREVIEW: Lions look for return trip to AMCC playoffs
11.6.07
A talented mix of nine returning
lettermen and six exciting newcomers comprise the 2007-2008 Penn State Altoona
men's basketball roster. Now entering his third season, head coach Alan Seretti
will try to guide his team back to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference
playoffs and push toward the ultimate goal of a conference championship.
The 2006-2007 season ended with the Lions winning eight of their last 12 games
and qualifying for the conference playoffs for the first time in program
history. The 10 wins the squad accumulated was tops all-time for a single
season. The Lions finished last season ranked in the top half of the AMCC in
scoring defense, free throw percentage, and field goal percentage. Seretti has
described this year's bunch as very versatile yet very raw. A lot of the
practice time goes toward developing individual skills and learning to play at
an intensity level that will make the team successful when game action begins.

11.1.07
For the second straight season, the Penn State Altoona men's basketball
team will make the short trip to Division I Saint Francis University for a
8:00 PM exhibition contest Saturday evening, November 3. The Lions and
Red Flash met last year in Loretto with the hosts nabbing an 82-41 win.
The game will be broadcast live on the Red Flash Sports Radio Network and
can be heard online at
www.GoRedFlash.com. The game does not count
toward either team's overall regular season win-loss record. Penn
State Altoona returns three starters and nine letter winners from last
year's squad that finished 10-16 overall and qualified for the AMCC playoffs
for the first time in program history. St. Francis returns all five
starters and a total of 12 lettermen after two consecutive sub-500
campaigns. Click the link below to read the game notes for Saturday's
match-up.
