ALTOONA, Pa. - Ahead 50-38 with 9:42 remaining, it looked as if the Penn State Altoona men's basketball team's lead would stand up the rest of the way. But Pitt-Greensburg saved its best basketball for the end, rallying on offense and playing shutdown defense to overcome the deficit and beat the Lions 61-56 in the Adler Gym on Wednesday.

Lorenzo Carter (Philadelphia, PA/Swenson) led Penn State Altoona with 17 points and added five steals. Eric Gaetano (Montoursville, PA/Loyalsock Township) scored 15 points.

Kirk Peters (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township) finished three points shy of 1,000 points for his career, scoring 12 points while grabbing 13 rebounds.

With a narrow 22-20 lead at  the 5:59 mark of the first half, the Lions finished the half strong -- helped by a pair of Carter three-pointers -- to take a 33-24 halftime advantage over Pitt-Greensburg.

The Lions picked up where they left off in the second half, getting a three-pointer from Gaetano and a Carter layup to help them increase their lead to 42-28 at 16:43.

But after Gaetano scored on a layup at 10:29, Penn State Altoona went cold on offense, going over ten minutes without a field goal.

Meanwhile, the Pitt-Greensburg offense began to click. Down by 12 with 9:42 left in the game, the Bobcats reeled off a 19-1 run to go up 57-51 with 30 seconds remaining.

The Lions finally got a field goal at the 20 second mark when Gaetano hit a three-pointer to narrow the score to 57-54.

But Pitt-Greensburg made four of their final five free throws to help clinch a 61-56 comeback win over Penn State Altoona.
