WOMEN'S SOFTBALL

 

hEAD Coach FRED CALDWELL

Coach Caldwell enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Lions.  He has 12 years of coaching experience with A.S.A. Travel Teams, including six years as the head coach of the 18-and-under Firestorm Team based in Central PA which has qualified for Nationals each of the past three seasons.

Caldwell also has seven years of experience as the varsity assistant coach with local Bellefonte Area High School’s softball team.  During that period Bellefonte won six District VI titles and competed in the PIAA state playoffs each of those years.  Bellefonte finished in the final eight or better five of those years including a trip to the State Finals in Shippensburg. The coaching staff was recognized by the Pennsylvania State Softball Coaches Association several times for their achievements.

In 2007, Caldwell was selected to serve as a Coach for the PIAA District 6 All-Star team for the annual Hall of Fame game held at the University Park Campus of the Pennsylvania State University.                                    

 

Assistant Coach Debbie Wasko

Coach Wasko is in her seventh year as an assistant on the Lion coaching staff.  Her softball experience includes playing in a variety of leagues in the Altoona area for more than 20 years.  She assists with recruiting efforts and has coached third base for the team in past seasons.  Wasko also serves as the administrative assistant in the Penn State Altoona athletics department.
