Volleyball falls to Gallaudet in first round of NCAA Tournament
11.9.06
Making their first appearance at the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament
in school history, the Penn State Altoona women's volleyball team ran into a
buzz saw Thursday afternoon in Huntingdon. The squad fell in straight
games (16-30, 11-30, 22-30) to second seed Gallaudet in the Mid-Atlantic
Regional. The first two games were lopsided, as Altoona fell behind early
and never recovered against the solid Bison attack. The Lions had 29 kills
over the three games compared to 58 by Gallaudet. Serving, usually one of
Altoona's strengths, was neutralized by impressive defense, as the Lions had no
service aces on the afternoon. Gallaudet recorded 10 aces and were led by
Tamijo Foronda's 20 kills and nine digs. For Altoona, Huntingdon High
School graduate Sara Kylor had 10 kills, and fellow Huntingdon grad Megan Goss
dug up 11 Bison kill attempts. The Lions end their record-setting season
at 17-13 overall and champions of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference,
also a first in school history.

Three Penn State Altoona athletes have been selected as AMCC Players of the
Week for their outstanding performances. Junior Sara Kylor (Huntingdon,

weekend, while maintaining a .260 attack percentage. She also collected 30 digs
(4.29 dpg) in leading the Lions to their first ever NCAA Tournament berth.

Volleyball wins AMCC, advances to NCAA Tournament
11.4.06
The Penn State Altoona women's volleyball team has done the
unthinkable. The second-seeded Lions stunned top seed and tournament host
Penn State Behrend 3-1 on Saturday afternoon to win their first ever
Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship and earn their first
ever berth to the NCAA Tournament. The game scores were 30-26, 22-30,
30-27, 30-27. Altoona struggled through the semfinals, sliding by Frostburg
State 3-0 to leave the top two regular-season teams battle it out.
After running the regular season with a perfect 9-0 conference record which
included a 3-1 defeat of Altoona, Behrend crushed Lake Erie College in the
semifinals on Friday night and were nearly everyone's favorite to win the
title. But upset-minded Penn State Altoona had other thoughts, leaving a
standing room only, pro-Behrend crowd in utter disbelief of the victory.
For Altoona, junior Sara Kylor had 23 kills in the four games while
contributing 20 digs. Fellow junior Sheena Cooper had 25 digs. Freshman
setter Lisa Byars handed out 48 assists on the evening, as the Lions
