Lions downed by Lycoming in season opener

ALTOONA, PA: The Penn State Altoona women's volleyball
team was handed their first setback of the season, falling three games to
none at the hands of Lycoming. The Lady Warriors downed Altoona 25-30,
31-33, 27-30.
Junior Sara Kylor (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) led the Lions
with 17 total kills, averaging 5.67 kills per game with a 0.235 hitting
average. Senior Stephanie Gigliotti (Port Allegany, PA/Port Allegany)
recorded 10 total kills for the match. Freshman Lisa Byars
(Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney), starting her first collegiate match as a
setter, dished out 36 assists for the night.
Defensively, junior Megan Goss (Huntingdon, PA/Hungtindon)
led Altoona with 25 total digs giving her an 8.3 DPG average. Junior
Sheena Cooper (Windber, PA/Windber) aided the cause with 16 digs on the
evening.
The squad dropped to 0-1 on the season but is back in action
this weekend as they travel to Muhlenberg College for the Buttermaker
Tournament. Games are on Friday and Saturday with a full schedule
available on the women's volleyball schedule page. The next home
contest is September 30th as Pitt-Bradford comes to the Adler Gymnasium at
1:00 PM.
