Lions wear down Bradford for third straight win
12.5.07

(ALTOONA, PA:)  Three players scored in double figures, and Penn State Altoona used its depth and athleticism to wear down visiting Pitt-Bradford 80-63 Wednesday night at the Adler Gym.  The Lions have won three straight games for the first time since the 2002-2003 season and improve to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.  UPB fell to 1-6 and 0-3 in the AMCC.

Alicia Glasser (Marion Center, PA/Marion Center) came off the bench to again lead the Lions with 13 points and seven rebounds.  Erin McGowan (Duncansville, PA/Duncansville) had 12 and five boards while Courtney Carroll (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) had 11 points and a season high six steals.  All 12 Penn State Altoona players who saw action recorded at least six minutes of floor time and all but one tallied points.

Freshman Cassie Proper (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) converted a lay up and two free throws in a decisive 11-0 run after the break as Pitt-Bradford didn't score its first points of the final half until nearly five minutes had elapsed.  Classmate Natalie Sheehan's (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hiltop) bucket with 12 minutes to play marked the Lions largest lead at 66-42.

Bradford sliced the deficit to 11 on a Katie Moore three point play, but the hosts concluded the game on a 7-1 run to set the final.

Moore finished with 21 points, eight boards, and five steals and was one of three Lady Panthers in double figures.  Teammates Danielle and Amanda Williams had 14 and 13 points, respectively.

A McGowan lay up with 10:13 left in the opening half gave the Lions their first lead of the game at 21-19.  Bradford scored the contest's first five points and led by as many as seven in the early going.

An 8-2 spurt in the waning minutes of the first half capped by an Olivia Hallahan (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) lay up gave Altoona a 43-33 lead.  The Lady Panthers closed the half on a 5-0 run of their own to set the intermission score at 43-38.

Altoona dominated in nearly every statistical category, forcing the Lady Panthers into 31 turnovers that led to 27 points.  The Lions outscored UPB 50-26 in the paint, 22-6 on fast breaks, 37-20 off the bench, and made nine more field goals than the visitors while attempting 24 more shots

Penn State Altoona will meet a Lake Erie team on Saturday, December 8, that is currently undefeated in the AMCC at 2-0.  Tip time is 1:00 PM at the Adler Gym.
