Lions fall at Greensburg, end season at 10-16

(GREENSBURG, PA:) Greensburg received 15 points from Nicole
Reiser and used a first half run to to beat Altoona 66-40 in the first round of
the AMCC playoffs at Greensburg. Greensburg will now face #2 seed Lake Erie
Friday night at Medaille. Greenburg started the game on a 11-0 run before
Altoona finally scored at the 14:31 mark of the first half.
The Lions offensive struggles continued throughout the first half as they were
held to just 17% percent shooting and the Bobcats rushed out to a 32-13 halftime
lead. Despite the deficient, the Lions held the Bobcats to just 38% in shooting.
As the second half began, Altoona picked up the pace on offense, and they cut
the Bobcats lead to 17 with 17:41 to play.
Unfortunately, the Lions run stalled and the teams play even basketball for a
majority of the second half. The Bobcats made one final run and finished the
game on a 9-0 run and extended their lead to 26. Greensburg also received 14
points from Kelsey Wilcox and 13 points from Amanda Sheaffer.
The leading scorer for Altoona was Brittany Poorman (Altoona,
PA/Altoona) who scored 9 points. The Lions failed to have some one top double
digits. Altoona's shooting woes continued in the second half and the team shot
just 18% for the game. The team did put together a solid 20-26 effort from the
free throw stripe.
The loss ends the Lion's season and they finished the season
10-16. Despite, the team graduating two players in seniors Brittany Poorman and
Erin McGowan (Duncansville, PA/Bishop Guilifoyle), they hope to build on the
success of the program's first AMCC playoff berth since 2004.
