LIONS DOWN BETHANY, EVEN RECORD AT 2-2
ALTOONA, PA: The Penn State Altoona women's soccer
team had a tough run of it with winless Bethany College on Saturday
afternoon, but eventually downed the Lady Bison by a score of 1-0 at Spring
Run Stadium.
The only goal and eventual game winner didn't come until the
84 minute mark, when freshman Danielle Collins (Glen Rock, PA /
Susquehannock) found sophomore Heather Darnell (Canton, GA / Cherokee) for
the header directly in front of the Bethany goalkeeper.
Altoona out-shot Bethany 15-7 on the afternoon and had eight
shots on goal compared to the Lady Bison's three. Darnell attempted
six of the Lions' 15 shots and her game-winning goal gives her four goals in
four games.
Altoona improved to 2-2 overall and returns to action this
Tuesday when Shenandoah comes to Spring Run Stadium for a 4:30 pm contest.
The Lion men's squad plays at 7:00 that evening against national powerhouse
Carnegie Mellon.
