Emily Knott Named to Second Team AMCC for Women's Tennis

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Penn State Altoona sophomore Emily Knott (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was named to the AMCC's Second Team All-Conference for women's tennis.
Knott participated in every contest for the Lady Lions this past season, winning three of her singles matches. She also earned Second Team AMCC honors last year.

ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team earned a 6-3 win over LaRoche College on Saturday.
Melissa Barba (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) and Ashley Eisenbeis (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) had an 8-0 doubles win, while Sarah Rice (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) and Faith Barlow (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) played to an 8-5 doubles win.
In the singles, Barba and Eisenbeis each earned wins, as did Michelle Harrison (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and Lindsay Kromel (Latrobe, PA/Derry Area).
Four selected to AMCC Women's Tennis All-Conference team

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Four Penn State Altoona women's tennis players were named to the 2008 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Women's Tennis All-Conference team, the league office announced Friday morning.
The four freshmen, Melissa Barba (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville), Michelle Harrison (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood), Ashley Bosco (Latrobe, PA/Derry Area), and Emily Knott (Altoona, PA/Altoona), all garnered second team honors in their respective flights.
Barba took the honor at #1 singles, while Bosco, Harrison, and Knott earned the accolades in #4, #5, and #6 singles, respectively.
The all-conference team is based on individual finish at the AMCC Championships held in Wexford, PA.
Penn State Behrend, the 2008 league champion, nearly pulled off a clean sweep of the first team all-conference awards. Behrend also boasted the AMCC Player of the Year (Arica Christman), Newcomer of the Year (Stephanie Cattron), and Coach of the Year (Jeff Barger).

Women's tennis takes third at AMCC Championships

WEXFORD, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team concluded the 2008 season by finishing third at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships held October 18-19 at the Oxford Athletic Club near Pittsburgh.
The Lions accumulated a team score of 12 points, just three behind runner-up Frostburg State and 14 back of league champion Penn State Behrend.
After Saturday's opening round of play, Altoona was down by only one point thanks to victories at #2 singles by sophomore Caitlyn Rohe (Pittsburgh, PA/Keystone Oaks) and at #2 doubles from the team of Ashley Bosco (Latrobe, PA/Derry Area) and Lindsay Kromel (Latrobe, PA/Derry Area).
Freshmen Michelle Harrison (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and Emily Knott (Altoona, PA/Altoona) advanced to the finals of #5 and #6 singles, respectively, before bowing out. Bosco (#4 singles) and #1 singles player Melissa Barba (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) also got to their flight finales.
Behrend boasted eight of the nine flight champions. Frostburg State managed a win at #1 doubles to prevent the Behrend sweep. La Roche (6 points) and Pitt-Bradford (4 points) rounded out the five-team scorecard.
The Lions of Altoona concluded the year at 5-7 overall and 3-5 in AMCC regular season action. The championship for Penn State Behrend was its fourth straight and eighth all-time.
Women's tennis downs Waynesburg for second straight win

ALTOONA, Pa. - Freshmen Melissa Barba (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) and Lindsay Kromel (Latrobe, PA/Derry Area) were double winners for the Penn State Altoona women's tennis team, which knocked off Waynesburg 6-3 Thursday afternoon at the Ivyside Courts.
The Lion victory was just the second over Waynesburg in the last six years dating back to 2003.
Barba teamed with sophomore Caitlyn Rohe (Pittsburgh, PA/Keystone Oaks) to take a very tight #1 doubles flight 9-8 (7-3). Kromel paired with high school teammate Ashley Bosco (Latrobe, PA/Derry Area) to win by the same score at #2 doubles.
In singles action, Barba captured the top flight by scores of 7-5,6-1 while Kromel emerged victorious at #4 singles, winning 6-4,6-2.
Freshmen Michelle Harrison (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and Emily Knott (Altoona, PA/Altoona) also earned decisions for Altoona, capturing #5 and #6 singles, respectively. Harrison was a 6-4,6-3 winner at #5, and Knott cruised to a 7-5,6-1 triumph.
Penn State Altoona concluded the regular season at 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. The Lions travel to Wexford, PA, this weekend for the 2008 AMCC Tennis Championships.
