Career Highlights


Coached Penn State Altoona to six AMCC Championships in nine years.
(1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006)

Named AMCC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year seven times. (1998 and all six AMCC championship seasons)

 

 

    Steve Genter, entering his tenth season at Penn State Altoona, has a wealth of tennis knowledge and coaching experience.
     Genter has been the head men's tennis coach at Penn State Altoona since 1998 and has built one of the most successful programs in the area and in the conference. He led the team to back to back AMCC titles in 1999 and 2000, going undefeated in the conference both years.
      After a second place finish in 2001, Genter again got his teams up and running, bringing conference titles to Ivy Side in 2002 and again in 2003. Overall Genter has coached the Lions to a record of 57-11, including a 30-4 in AMCC play.
       Genter has been a tennis pro since 1973, working at various tennis clubs throughout the area, and has been the head tennis pro at Blair Racquet Club since 1978.
      As a player, Genter excelled at
California State University in Pennsylvania where he graduated in 1976 with high honors in Urban Recreation. In 1972 Genter was a member of the doubles team that won the Eastern Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) title. In 1976 the tennis standout was a finalist in number one singles and was part of a championship team in 1976.
      Individually, Genter was ranked in the top five in the state of
New Jersey from 1971 to 1975 and was ranked number two in the Allegheny Tennis Association in 1977.
