Capra wins twice in setback to Frostburg State

Despite two wins from sophomore Pia Capra, the Penn State Altoona
women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Frostburg State Tuesday at the
Ivyside Tennis Courts. Capra and Amanda Rodi were victorious at #1
doubles, defeating Carolyn Shedd and Vicky Stafford 8-6. Capra earned
the only singles win of the day for Altoona by defeating Frostburg's Sarah
Eisel 6-4, 7-6 at #1 singles. The only other Lion triumph was at #3
doubles courtesy of Jackie Bunn and Caitlyn Rohe, who bested Frostburg duo
Kim Hardy and Sharis Erwin 8-4. Penn State Altoona dropped to 2-5
overall and returns to action Wednesday against Penn State Harrisburg.
Match time is 3:30 PM at the Ivyside Courts.

Tennis drops two to
Behrend

The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team dropped two consecutive matches
to Penn State Behrend Friday and Saturday in Erie. In Friday's match, the Lions
were blanked 9-0 before falling again on Saturday 7-2. The highlights for
Altoona came in Saturday's doubles flights. Pia Capra and Amanda Rodi defeated
Amy Brem and Alyssa Swartz 8-2 in #1 doubles while Katherine Bonnin and Caitlyn
Rohe defeated Elise Jones and Kelly Matalka at #2 doubles. The two losses
dropped Altoona to 2-4 overall. The squad's next match is Tuesday, October
2, against Frostburg State at 3 PM at the Ivyside Tennis Courts.
Lions earn 5-4 decision over Frostburg State

Amanda Rodi won her #4 singles match and teamed with Pia Capra to nab the #1
doubles flight, helping Penn State Altoona earn a 5-4 win over host Frostburg
State Wednesday afternoon. Rodi and Capra edged Bobcat duo Sara Eisel and
Vicky Stafford in a very close 9-8 decision. Michael Paul captured the #2
singles flight 6-1, 6-2 for Altoona as teammate Katherine Bonnin earned the win
at #3 singles 6-3, 6-1. Rodi defeated Liz Coblentz 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 and won
on a four point super tiebreaker. Caitlyn Rohe put the Lions on top with a
6-4, 6-1 win over Kim Hardy. The third doubles and six singles flights
were forfeited by the Lions, who had only five players make the trip.
Altoona improved to 2-2 on the young season and returns to action this weekend
for a pair of matches at Penn State Behrend on Saturday and Sunday.
Women's Tennis drops 6-3 decision to Waynesburg

The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to
Waynesburg Thursday afternoon at the Ivyside Tennis Courts. The Lions'
only flight wins of the day came at #2 doubles, #4 singles, and #5 singles.
Katherine Bonnin and Caitlyn Rohe teamed up to defeat Allie Horochak and Jess
Mally 8-3 for the lone Altoona doubles victory. Rohe also won her #5
singles match 6-2, 6-2 over the Yellow Jackets' Dana Davis. Sophomore
Amanda Rodi was victorious in the #4 singles flight by downing Mally 6-4, 6-2.
Penn State Altoona dropped to 1-1 on the season and will return to action Friday
afternoon against St. Vincent College. Match time is 3 PM at the Ivyside
Courts.
Women's tennis opens season with win over PSU-Harrisburg

The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team won its first match of the 2007
season, downing Penn State Harrisburg 8-1 Monday afternoon in Harrisburg.
The Lions of Altoona captured every flight except #2 doubles. Pia Capra
and Amanda Rodi played #1 doubles and earned an 8-6 victory. Katherine
Bonnin and Michael Paul swept the #2 doubles match 8-0 while Caitlin Rohe and
Jackie Bunn captured the third doubles flight, also by an 8-0 count. Capra
was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at #1 singles. Bonnin, Rodi, Rohe, and Bunn also
were victorious in their respective singles flights. Penn State Altoona
will make its home debut on Thursday, September 20, when Waynesburg University
comes to the Ivyside Courts for a 3 PM match.
Organizational meeting set for Monday, August 27

An organizational meeting has been scheduled for any women interested in
trying out for the 2007 Penn State Altoona women's tennis team. The
meeting will be held on Monday, August 27, at 8:00 PM at the
Laurel Pavilion located next to the Adler Athletic Complex. All
interested women are encouraged to attend and learn more about women's tennis at
Penn State Altoona. Prospective players should also visit the Athletic
Training and Sports Medicine page on the Penn State Altoona athletics website,
download and complete the two physical forms, and bring those to the meeting.
Student-athletes may not practice until physical papers are fully completed and
turned in. Please contact head women's tennis coach Steve Genter with
