Penn State Altoona

Faculty Study Abroad Awards

Faculty International Travel Award

Deadlines:

  • Spring Semester: October 31, 2008

  • Fall and Summer Semesters:  March 28, 2008

Award Amount: up to $500

 

Criteria:

  • Must be a full-time faculty member of Penn State Altoona

  • A teaching or research activity must be offered through Penn State Altoona for a minimum of one credit to at least one student

  • Student (s) participating must meet the criteria for the Penn State Altoona Student International Travel Award

  • The Faculty International Travel Award can be used as a partial match that is required for the New Places, New Challenges Award

Faculty Travel Fund: New Places, New Challenges

 

Deadlines:

  • Spring Semester: November 1, 2008

  • Summer Semester: February 1, 2008

  • Fall Semester and Winter Break: June 1, 2008

Award Amount: up to $2000

 

Criteria:

  • Must be a Penn State faculty member

  • Must be used to internationalize undergraduate courses

  • Can be used to expand teaching, collect materials for classes, or make contacts for future teaching

  • The project idea must be explicitly tied to the transformation of an existing course or the development of a new course offered within the next two years

  • Priority is given to those traveling to locations outside of Western Europe

  • Must show matching funds

Student Group Travel Fund

 

Deadlines:

  • Spring Semester: November 1, 2008

  • Summer Semester: February 1, 2008

  • Fall Semester and Winter Break: June 1, 2008

Award Amount: up to $3,500

 

Criteria: Priority given to

  • Group travel connected with a newly created course

  • Courses that are designed to serve students of several disciplines

  • Student travel in disciplines where study abroad participation is limited

  • Travel for 100-300 level courses

  • Travel to non-Western European destinations

  • Proposals that will receive support from other sources (departments, college, or external source)

Fulbright Scholar Program

 

Deadline: August 1, 2008

 

Award Amount: Varies by country and project

 

Criteria:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Hold a Ph.D. or equivalent professional/terminal degree

  • College or university teaching experience

  • Foreign Language Proficiency (dependent on award location)

  • Sound physical and mental health

Fulbright Senior Specialist Program

 

Deadline: Ongoing

 

Award Amount: Varies by country and project

 

Criteria:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • For academics, hold a Ph.D. or equivalent professional/terminal degree

  • For professionals or artists, be a recognized professional and have substantial accomplishments plus a minimum of five years experience in the field you are applying

  • Foreign Language Proficiency (Dependent on award location)

  • Live in the U.S. at the time the grant is awarded

  • Desire to participate in a program of 2-6 weeks in length in one of the participating disciplines

Rotary International Grants for University Teachers

 

Deadline: August 1, 2008

 

Award Amount: $12,500

 

Criteria:

  • Must hold or have held a full-time college or university appointment for three or more years but need not hold a specific rank

  • Subject (s) taught must have practical use to the host country

  • Applicant's home and host country must contain at least one Rotary club

  • Proposed host institution must be located in a low-income/developing country

  • Applicants must be proficient in the language of their prospective host country

  • Applicants may be Rotarians or non-Rotarians

  • Awards are not restricted by gender, age, or marital status
