Yesterday I was Gringo, today add tourist to my resume.  A day full of fiestas in Old San Juan and all of my companions are laughing at my red skin (yes, I wore sunblock).  Calle (Road) San Sebastian is closed for the entire weekend to cars to make way for lots of singing, dancing, drinking, food, and art.  You find yourself saying “Permisso” (Excuse me) hundreds of times throughout the day and making loops to avoid large sections of the street, still to find that it’s nearly impossible to navigate through the crowd.  As I understand it, the whole island crams onto this one small street for three wild days.

Despite the crowds, it’s impossible not to have a pina colada (virgin of course), try the baccalaitos, and join in the general splendor and merrymaking of a fiesta.  I was especially drawn to the art.  While there is amateur art here, there are works so expensive and so impressive that I find myself still wishing for $4,000.00.  And then I sigh, it’s the painting or a semester in Puerto Rico.  As I’ve not decided to return home yet, I had no choice: my walls remain colorless.  As for la Fiesta de San Sebastian, it was a vibrant and lively welcoming party.

Take a look at a few of my pictures.
