Penn State Altoona Student International Travel Award

Deadlines:

  • Spring Semester - October 31

  • Fall and Summer Semesters - March 28

Award Amount: up to $500

Criteria:

  • Be enrolled in a Penn State Altoona major

  • Have a 2.5 G.P.A.

  • Have 60 credits at the time of applying

  • Be participating in a program of at least one week in duration

The IFSA Foundation Scholarship

 

Deadlines:

  • Spring Semester - October 31

  • Fall Semester and Academic Year Programs - March 28

Award Amount: up to $2000 for semester or year-long programs

Criteria:

  • Be enrolled in a Penn State Altoona major

  • Have a 2.5 G.P.A.

  • Have 60 credits at the time of applying

  • Be participating in a program of at least one semester in duration

  • Have a FAFSA on file

  • Have significant financial need

The Pennsylvania Commonwealth Education Abroad Scholarship

 

Deadlines:

  • Rolling Deadline

  • First come, first serve basis

Award Amount: $500

Criteria:

  • Be enrolled as a full time student

  • Have a 3.0 G.P.A.

  • Be enrolled or planning to enroll in a short-term faculty-led program

  • Have a FAFSA on file

Fulbright Program for U.S. Students

 

Campus Deadline: September 15, 2008

 

Please see Mandy Reinig if you are interested in applying for the 2007-2008 award cycle.  The application process for this award is extensive and the applicant will have to be nearly finished with their application at the beginning of Fall 2006 to have a greater chance for a successful application.

 

Award Amounts: Vary

 

Criteria:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen

  • Be a graduating Senior or hold a B.S./B.A. degree, Masters degree, doctoral candidate, young professional, or an artist

  • Be thinking of studying, conducting research, or teaching abroad

  • Be in good health

NSEP (National Security Education Program)

David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship

 

Campus Deadline: December 15, 2008

 

Please see Mandy Reinig if you are interested in applying for the 2009-10 award cycle.  The application process for this award is extensive and the applicant will have to be nearly finished with their application at the beginning of Fall 2008 to have a greater chance for a successful application.

 

Award Amounts:

  • Summer - up to $8,000

  • Semester - up to $10,000

  • Academic Year - up to $20,000

Criteria:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate at an U.S. college or university

  • Have a desire to study abroad

  • Be applying to a study abroad program, for academic credit, outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand

  • Desire to work for the Federal Government after graduation

Selection Criteria - Merit-based:

  • Academic record

  • Program preference

  • Language interest

  • Quality of proposed program

  • Commitment to international education to fulfill academic and career goals

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

 

Deadlines:

  • Fall and Academic Year - April 3, 2008

  • Spring - October 9, 2008

Award Amounts: Up to $5,000 to assist with study abroad costs

 

Criteria:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen

  • Be a undergraduate in good standing

  • Be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application

  • Be applying or approved for a university approved, undergraduate credit-eligible program of study abroad

  • Be going on a program for minimum of 4 weeks

  • Summer programs are not eligible

Selection Criteria:

  • Statement of Purpose

  • Follow-up Service Project

  • Academic Progress and Performance

  • Diversity of Participant

  • Fields of Study

  • Country of Destination

  • Length of Study

  • Preference is given to students with no previous study abroad experience

Rotary International Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarship

 

Local Club Deadline: August 1, 2008

 

Award Amount: up to $10,000

 

Criteria:

  • Will be studying for three months of intensive language study and cultural immersion

  • Languages available for study: Arabic, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, and Swedish

  • Must not have fluency in one of the above languages

  • Cannot be a Rotarian, Honorary Rotarian or related to anyone who is a Rotarian or works for Rotary International

DAAD - (German Academic Exchange Service)

Undergraduate Scholarship

 

Campus Deadline: December 15, 2008

 

Award Amount: Monthly Stipend and funds to defray travel expenses

 

Criteria:

  • Currently have Sophomore or Junior status

  • Be applying to study abroad in Germany for a 4-10 month duration

  • Be receiving academic credit for planned study abroad program

  • Have an outstanding academic record and personal integrity

    • shown by applicants grades and letters of recommendation

  • Be a U.S. or Canadian citizen

  • Demonstrate an interest in German and European affairs

  • Have a well-defined study, research, or internship plan for duration of stay in Germany

  • Be enrolled full-time at an accredited U.S. college or university

  • Be under 32 years of age

Freeman-ASIA Award for Study in Asia

 

Campus Deadlines:

  • Spring Programs - October 17, 2008

  • Fall Programs - April 2, 2008

  • Summer Programs - March 7, 2008

Award Amount: $3,000-7,000

 

Criteria:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident

  • Be eligible for need-based financial aid

  • Have a FAFSA on file

  • Must be accepted to study abroad for a minimum of 8 weeks for a summer program or 12 weeks for a semester program in one of the following countries

    • Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam

  • Can have little or no previous experience in the country where program takes place

  • Must be willing to work with their campus study abroad office and their local community promoting study abroad in Asia upon return

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Support Grant

 

Deadlines

  • February 15, 2009 for 2009-10 Programs

Award Amounts: $1000

 

Criteria:

  • This grant is open to members and non-members

  • Attend an institution with a Phi Kappa Phi chapter

  • Have a minimum 3.5 GPA

  • Have a least two semesters left after your study abroad experience

  • Have completed at least 30 credits but no more than 90 credits
