Theatre Arts @ Penn State Altoona

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Department of Theatre Arts at Penn State Altoona is to provide a nurturing and challenging educational environment, which propels the student towards their future, and excels in practical application of theatrical techniques. Central to our focus as a department under the Integrative Arts Degree, is superior instruction and ample performance opportunities.

Program Goal Statement:
The goal of the Department of Theatre Arts under the Integrative Arts Program is to:
  • Foster academic excellence,
  • Promote superior teaching and personalized mentorship in the classroom and on the stage by quality personnel with expertise in their areas of teaching and performance venues,
  • Enhance the cultural and aesthetic experience of our campus, community and region,
  • Embrace our standard of artistic excellence, and
  • Offer widespread visibility through our active participation with the KCACTF (Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival) as well as other professional and educational organizations.
Educational Goal Statement:
  • Provide students with practical skills in all areas of theatre arts including dance, lighting design, set design, set construction, costuming, stage management, acting, and directing. Through the mission of the Integrative Arts program, students can combine their theatre arts studies with experience in all aspects of film production.
  • Supply students with the necessary teaching and training base necessary to sustain and forward theatre arts as an art form.
  • Prepare students for successful transfer to graduate programs and/or pursue professional careers in the performing arts.
  • Provide theatre, dance, and puppetry performance opportunities for our students.
  • Provide exposure to theatre and dance professionals by attending performances and having guest workshops.
  • Offer a wide variety of study abroad programs for students of the college.
